Boxlight to Host Creative and Hands-On Professional Development Sessions at ISTE 2017

Educators will learn how interactive tech can enhance assessment, STEM, collaboration and whole-class instruction in short, engaging and fun sessions.

Lawrenceville, GA — June 13, 2017 — In addition to its usual product demonstrations, Boxlight will be holding 11 professional development mini-sessions for attendees of the 2017 ISTE Conference & Expo in San Antonio, Texas. Visitors to the Boxlight booth (#1206) will be treated to seven-to 10-minute sessions that cover the key learning areas of whole-class instruction, collaboration, STEM and assessment.

The booth will have two classroom areas that will continually run the mini-sessions throughout each day. Sessions will start every half hour, and a complete schedule can be found at http://news.mimio.boxlight.com/visit-us-at-iste-2017.

“The 2017 conference home page states that extraordinary educators deserve extraordinary professional development, and we couldn’t agree more. So we designed these mini-sessions to be hands-on and full of entertaining auditory and visual elements,” said Boxlight’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Sunshine Nance. “Each session will be fast paced and high level, highlighting the possibilities of what your classroom could be!”

Mini-Sessions for Whole-Class Instruction
In these three sessions, attendees will learn how to use various Mimio tools to foster collaboration, as well as quick and seamless assessment, for the entire class. For example, the When Your Frog Becomes a Prince session will show educators how to use the MimioStudio classroom software to add collaborative and assessment features to lessons and activities created in PowerPoint and used with other interactive whiteboards.

Mini-Sessions for STEM
The four STEM-focused sessions show teachers how to integrate assessment and collaboration with hands-on experiments through the use of interactive tools. Three of them – Make the Digital Classroom Explosive with Chemistry, Get Physical with Physics, and Have Science, Will Travel – are suitable for all grade levels.

Mini-Sessions for Collaborative Learning
These five sessions will show attendees how to use MimioStudio, mobile devices and other tools in developing a collaborative culture within their classrooms. One exception is the Collaboration One Step at a Time session, which covers basic collaboration without technology before moving on to enhanced collaboration using interactive displays or student devices, techniques for collaborating at the front of the classroom and in small groups.

Four veteran educators will serve as the mini-session presenters:

Travis Rink is a tech expert and educator, training manager and educational technology professional. The assistant principal at Eisenhower High School-Goddard in Kansas, Rink has 21 years of classroom teaching experience as well as four years in professional development as a global training manager.

Paul Gigliotti has been involved with Boxlight’s Quick Learn program since its inception. With over 17 years in the classroom, his passion for social studies and educational technology has won him accolades that include the Ohio Middle School Teacher of the Year Award (2008). Gigliotti has been a national conference speaker and an adjunct professor, and he has published a paper on “Preparing to Use Technology.” Interested parties can also read his posts on the MimioEducator blog, http://blog.mimio.com/author/paul-gigliotti.

Claire Pavia is an 17-year teaching veteran who was once nominated for Teacher of the Year in the Northern Illinois District. She has coordinated the implementation of an array of classroom instructional technology, most recently mobile devices, and currently handles all day-to-day operations regarding mobile devices.

Lindy George has been an instructional technology specialist for Collier County Public Schools in Florida for 18 years. Previously, she worked as a classroom teacher and a curriculum specialist. Lindy is a MimioMaster, Mimio Certified trainer and an avid Mimio user.
